Top Three Trends in Custom Wood Fencing For Louisville Homes in 2026

Over the years I’ve noticed certain themes in the fence and gate projects that clients approach me to make for them. I’m reluctant to call them “trends” as that can imply a temporal quality, but I do think it is possible for trends to approach an aspect of timelessness. This achievement is due to the focus being more on how a space makes you feel when surrounded by things made with intention and mindfulness versus the temporal nature we associate with styles or materials in passing trends.

I want to share with you the three trends I see continuing in fence and gate builds in 2026 and beyond.

Number One: Bespoke Entry Garden Gates

For anyone enjoying a peaceful, well designed and thoughtful garden, a garden gate is a must have. In these spaces the functional aspect of a gate isn’t all that matters. Design comes front and center in creating something worthy of defining the threshold of a transitional space from a public setting to a more intimate one. This is where a bespoke garden gates make a big impression and should be made to reflect the uniqueness of both the space and the people they are made for.

Number Two: Integration of an Arbor and Trellis in Fence and Gate Designs

Closely related to bespoke garden gates is the addition of an arbor or trellis (or both!) to a gate or fence. An arbor can be added to both a gate as well as a fence. Although the addition of either of these to a gate or fence adds to the visual interest of the structure, it’s the integration of the garden itself into the structure that really adds a sense of harmony to a space. Blending components of a garden instead of seeing everything as separate is a sure way of inviting the harmony to a space that I’m always looking for.

Number Three: Horizontal Privacy Fence For a Modern Touch

This one is a little different from the first two and harder to pull off due to the need for a more modern designed home. However, where the horizontal fence really shines is around a patio or small garden alcove. This allows for many design possibilities without overwhelming a space with too many horizontal lines. One of the most interesting of these design possibilities is using varying width boards within a horizontal fence.

Conclusion

As alluded to earlier, the best trends are the ones that create a space for finding ease of mind and soul from the complexities of the outside world and not on shifting temporal variables. If 2026 is the year you begin your garden or if you’re refining an established one, I would love to assist you in creating your very own special garden gate, arbor, trellis, garden bench or some other addition to make your space uniquely you.
